Airlines has announced updated regulations regarding the carriage and use of power banks on flights, effective April 1, 2025. These measures aim to enhance in-flight safety and align with industry standards.
Key Points of the New Policy:
-
Personal Carriage: Passengers flying with Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, and MASwings must carry power banks on their person at all times. Power banks should not be placed in overhead compartments but can be stored in carry-on bags under the seat or in the seat pocket in front.
-
Magnetic Wireless Charging Power Banks: These devices must be kept in a separate bag or protective pouch to prevent accidental activation.
-
In-Flight Use and Charging: Charging or using power banks during the flight is strictly prohibited.
-
Checked Baggage Restrictions: Power banks and spare lithium-ion batteries are not allowed in checked baggage. Instagram
These changes reflect a growing trend among airlines to mitigate risks associated with lithium-ion batteries. For instance, Singapore Airlines and other carriers have announced similar bans on the in-flight use of power banks starting April 2025.
Passengers are advised to familiarize themselves with these new regulations before traveling to ensure compliance and contribute to overall flight safety.
